Joy was born in Chicago, Illinois. Joy traveled throughout the Midwest playing competitive junior USTA tennis unlit she was 18 years old. She attended Lewis and Clark in Portland, OR where she played college tennis for 4 years. Joy has also enjoyed competing in other sports growing up such as, softball, cross country skiing, and rugby.
Joy took up Pickleball in 2013 after being introduced to the sport by her longtime friend and doubles partner Christine Barksdale. Joy made a big splash in her debut event, placing 2nd in the 2014 National Tournament in both singles and doubles. Most recently Joy and her partner Christine won the gold in women’s 35’s doubles at nationals 2015. Joy’s paddle of choice is the ProLite Impact. She loves how this paddle is firm, but still provides the control I need. Joy continues to enjoy the sport and the excitement that comes with competition, travel, and meeting new players.
When Joy is not on the pickleball court she spends time hiking, running, gardening and enjoying the wonderful Pacific NW cuisine with her husband John Paul. Joy works for a local foundation “I have a Dream” helping students and families succeed in education and reach economic independence.
Joy looks forward to continue to share pickleball with her community and spread her love of the sport through competition and teaching. Learn more at www.pickleballnorthwest.com.
